Barack Obama’s decision to support the newest FISA legislation has caused an uproar throughout the blogosphere.  Here’s what has appeared on the ‘Lincolnites For Obama’ listserv on my.barackobama.com. If you haven’t created a profile on my.barackobama.com, or “mybo”, I’d reccomend it. It was developed by Chris Carter, the developer of Facebook and one of Obama’s Senior advisors.

“Unity” Weekend a huge success in Lincoln

June 29th, 2008

Friday, from Unity, NH, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton appeared on stage together to campaign together for all the things both candidates and the Democratic party are working for.

Barack Obama’s Unite For Change national event was Saturday - 3,000 houseparties nationwide reaching out to grow Obama’s grassroots movement. The event in Lincoln was hosted by Dr. Amita Martin.
Dr. Martin began by sharing her own personal life story of immigrating to the United States as a child and making her dreams come true. She also talked about Senator Obama and asked everyone at the event to tell their own personal story of how they came to support Barack Obama. We had Eric Hunt, a recovering Republican who has been doing volunteer work for Obama as “penance for voting for George Bush.” We had Hillary supporters who’ve realized the differences between Obama and Clinton are minute compared to the differences between those 2 and McCain.

“Build A Bridge, Barack Obama” by Bob Kerrey

June 29th, 2008

Here is an op-ed piece written by our beloved former Senator and Governor Bob Kerrey.  In it, Kerrey urges Senator Obama to find common ground with Senator McCain before the election to succeed in what Bush promised yet failed to do, changing the tone in Washington and create a new type of American politics.  Although Governor Kerrey was a Clinton supporter, he is prepared to fully back Obama going into the general election.
Our beloved current Senator Ben Nelson was one of Senator Obama biggest early supporters and has been unyielding in his support.

Last weekend was the Nebraska State Democratic Convention in Fremont.  It was a huge success.

Vic Covalt, a friend of ‘Nebraska For Obama’ who has recently served as the caucus chair for the Lancaster County Democrats and is the current NDP “Volunteer of the Year” ran unopposed and is now the State Chairman of the Nebraska Democratic Party, replacing Steve Achelpohl.

Lisa Olivares, chairwoman of ‘Lincoln For Obama’ was recruited by Vince Powers to run as 1st associate chair of Congressional District 1.  She ran unopposed.  She also was elected as a district delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August.  Aside from that, she also ran unopposed and is now Secretary of the Hispanic Caucus.

Janet Banks, who has done extensive grassroots volunteering for Obama and is a great lady, was elected as the other female delegate from CD1.

Judy Vohland, who is the chairwoman of ‘Grand Island For Obama’, also won the district delegate slot for CD3

Michelle Uzendoski, organizer of ‘Columbus For Obama’ was elected as an alternate delegate for CD3

Eric Aspergren, the Director of the Lancaster County Democrats and a friend to ‘Nebraska For Obama,’ also won an at-large alternate slot (don’t ask which candidate he’s pledged to, ha ha ha)

We are proud to say that ‘Nebraska For Obama’ will be well represented at the Democratic National Convention this August.
